Dr. Maynard is a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (Carnegie Mellon), and an innovator (11 patents) with 20 years of experience in applied research in the high tech industry. She is a recognized leader in Puerto Rican cultural arts education (dance, music, community theatre) on the mainland US.
Her unique interdisciplinary expertise is inspiring her applied research that is using cultural arts to spark creative process and understanding of engineering concepts, and bridge artistic creation to physical realization in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). Research pilot of innovative, hands-on project-based learning in STEM education through cultural arts (STEAM) is currently focused on middle school ages. Future work will expand to K-12/16 and adult learning. Publications include:
